For the last four year, Spanish Teacher Tim Margiotta has spearheaded fundraisers with his Emerging Spanish students on behalf of an organization called Mission Santa Maria (MSM). They are a non-profit organization that supports a school and orphanage in a coastal area of Ecuador, providing school transportation, uniforms, books, meals, and college scholarships to needy children. Over 100 Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School students gathered almost 1,000 sponsors, for a grand total of $10,790. On March 22, 2017 they donated the money to MSM Founder James Campbell and Board Member Michael Temple when they visited the middle school to speak with the students about the incredibly positive impact their efforts. “I wanted my students to develop a greater perspective, and have the opportunity to make a difference. I hope this continues to inspire and motivate them in years to come,” said Margiotta.
