On March 7, we will be showing The Girl on the Train (2016, R)The Hollars (2016, PG-13) will be presented on March 14On March 21, we will screen 45 Years (2015, R).  Ghostbusters (2016, PG-13) is our feature film on March 28. Showtime is 6:30 PM for each movie.

“Opera on Film Series”
Friday, March 10 at 1:00 PMFriday Operas on Film series, sponsored by the T. Robel Hill Foundation and presented by Mena Clemson. This month’s offering is a 2004 recording of Il Corsaro by Giuseppe Verdi.  Zvetan Michailov (Corrado) and Renato Bruson (Pasha Seid) perform and the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Regio di Parma is conducted by Renato Palumbo.
“Saturday Musical Getaways:  Nina Et Cetera”
Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 PM. A Mountainside Library favorite, Nina Romano returns with a special Women’s History Month program entitled “Maybelle Carter: American Music Legend”. Maybelle Carter was a core member of the Carter Family, the first superstars of Country Music, who enjoyed tremendous popularity and success during the Great Depression. The Carters collected backwoods music, recorded hits, composed, toured extensively, and are an enduring influence to this day. Maybelle Carter was a virtuoso guitarist in a number of styles, inventing a style which bears her name. She was a composer of many songs, and a multi-instrumentalist, as well. We will tell her story with illustrative songs, musical examples, and other lore from the period. This program is entertaining, inspiring and educational. Wednesday, March 15 at 2:00 PM.  Where would you want to leave your hard earned money in case of death or disability?  Nursing home, government or family members? If you answered “family members”, this presentation is a must for you! At this seminar, given by Benjamin Eckman, a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, you will discover how to successfully safeguard your assets from taxes, probate and nursing home costs. People lose their assets to government and nursing homes all the time because these entities do not inform them of the laws. This seminar is your opportunity to learn for yourself.

Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 PM. Join Sally Younghans each month as we explore the most talked about evidence based meditation techniques for inner peace, overall well-being and stress reduction. This month’s topic is “The Witness Technique”, learn how to witness and detach from thoughts and emotions to find stillness.
“Hollywood Musicals with Skip Ungar”
Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 PM. Skip Ungar presents a lecture with music about the Early Hollywood musicals starting with the 1927’s “The Jazz Singer” featuring Al Jolson and continuing through Judy Garland’s “The Wizard of Oz” in 1939. Bing Crosby’s movie career, from 1930 to 1974, will also be included. Skip will play and occasionally sing some of the songs from several of those films such as “Sonny Boy”, “Top Hat”, “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off”, “They Can’t take That Away From Me”, and others.
“NJ Maker’s Day”
Saturday, March 25. Join us for the Third Annual New Jersey Makers Day! NJ Makers Day is designed to be a statewide event that celebrates, promotes, and in many cases may introduce maker culture, as well as the values associated with making, tinkering and STEM-based learning. In 2016, NJ Makers Day drew over 40,000 individual attendees to more than 230 participating sites, including the Mountainside Public Library, across all 21 counties in the state. This year, in addition to all-day 3D Printer demonstrations, we will feature a variety of hands on projects and activities for children ages 2-6 from 10:00 AM to noon. In the afternoon, “Bricks4kidz” (www.bricks4kidz.com) will present programs that allow children (Grades 2-3 and 4-5) to embrace their creativity and build exciting LEGO® models from project kits. There will be two afternoon sessions, each limited to 15 participants, so registration is a must and priority will be given to Mountainside residents!
“ABCs of DNA”
Thursday, March 30, 7:00PM. Walter Choroszewski returns to the library with his “Genetic Genealogy & Genomics” presentation. He will share his experience with DNA testing and teaches how you can discover the hidden treasures in your DNA. As a former science educator, Walter decodes the confusing science of DNA and translates it into common language. He compares genetic testing companies and directs how to find your genetic relatives, biogeographical origins and much more!
“Saturday Musical Getaways:  Sixty Minutes Around the World”, Saturday, April 8 at 2:00 PM. The Karkowska Sisters Duo is an award winning, internationally acclaimed ensemble that has performed to standing ovations, encores and rave reviews from Carnegie Hall to Mexico’s National Center for Performing Arts.  Kasha, who studied at the Chopin Academy, and Anna, who studied at the Julliard School, will take the audience on a fantastic journey-adventure, around the world with the most daring virtuosity, unforgettable stories and a bit of Borge-like humor in an amazing program of the most beloved classical music hits including fireworks of Carmen Fantasy by P.
