MOUNTAINSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY NOVEMBER PROGRAMS

The Mountainside Public Library has scheduled the following programs for November and early December. The Library will be closed on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day and on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
“Diabetes and Me”
Tuesday, November 15 at noon.
Here is an easy way to become more knowledgeable about your own or a family member/friend’s health risk as it relates to Type 2 diabetes. Meet Martha
Schinbeckler, RN and other members of the Overlook Diabetes Center, and learn more about diabetes and how to reduce your chance of developing pre-diabetes
and how healthy food choices and portion control can make a difference. Have your blood sugar, blood pressure and pulse checked. You can even visit with a podiatrist who will discuss foot care and a pharmacist who will review your medication profile.
“Guided Meditation for Inner Peace”
Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 PM.
Join us every month as we explore and experience the most talked about evidence based meditation techniques for inner peace, overall well-being and stress reduction. This month Sally Younghans will be teaching Yoga Nidra (awake sleep). This is a deep relaxation technique that you can use anytime you need. Twenty minutes of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 4 hours of sleep!
Opera on Film Series
Friday, November 18 at 1:00 PM.
Friday Operas on Film series, sponsored by the
T. Robel Hill Foundation and presented by Mena Clemson, will be showing I Lombardi by Giuseppe Verdi. Recorded in 1984, this film stars JosО Carreras and Ghena Dimitrova. Gianandrea Gavazzeni conducts the Chorus and Orchestra of La Scala.
“From Saint to Santa”
Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 PM.
Through centuries of art, much of it now in East Coast museums, Mike Norris will explore how a Turkish bishop, Nicholas of Myra, evolved into one of Christianity’s most beloved saints. Then in American artwork, we’ll see Nicholas change again—into Santa Claus. Mike Norris, Ph.D., has given lectures for more than twenty years to libraries and schools, especially in classical and medieval art, many geared especially for New Jersey audiences.
“A Story Telling with Balloon Animals”
Tuesday, December 6 at 3:45-4:30 PM.
Cheryl Anne, from Currier’s Magical Mania, presents an interactive entertainment show for children Pre-K through 5th grade that combines comedy, storytelling and balloon twisting! Watch as Human and Alien take on form and travel into new galaxies; mermaids magically appear and a frog takes on the chores of the castle! Parents of the youngest audience members must stay with their kids.
The Mountainside Public Library is located at 1 Constitution Plaza, Mountainside, NJ.
