We’ve wrapped up a busy summer at NPML. Summer reading programs for all ages have concluded. Prizes have been awarded, lots of books read and lots of volunteer hours racked up. We thank all of our wonderful volunteers who assisted in the library with awarding prizes, making ice cream and registering participants as well as those who continue to work stocking the bookshelf library at the NP Pool with great selections.
Many thanks to our generous township businesses who donated prizes this year: Prestige Diner, Coppola’s, Zita’s Ice Cream, Acme, Starbuck’s and Random House.
The Fall season promises to be a busy one as well. There are so many programs for so many different interests. NPML’s regular offerings include movies on Tuesdays, foreign movies, the Baseball Discussion group, and day and evening book groups along with a full schedule of story times and a special baby lapsit story time for the younger set. Check the calendar on the library website for fuller descriptions or take a Fall Events calendar from the Circulation Desk to keep track events day-by-day. There’s a separate Children’s Room schedule with all times and events.
Special events coming up include Will as I Knew Him on Sunday, September 25 at 3 p.m. Dr. Peter Lubrecht, an actor and Shakespeare scholar and teacher will enlighten us with stories and facts about The Bard from the perspective of one of his mates. No high falutin’ language in this presentation, just some fun facts presented in an entertaining manner.
Come out and support the library on Saturday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. when the Friends of NPML present a Fall fundraiser. The Great Swamp Nursery will present a program on Fall gardening and the Friends will include a Fall bulb giveaway to all participants. Stay tuned to our website for more details.
NPML will be celebrating October as National Book Group month this year with 2 specific programs. The first features New Providence’s own Doris Parmett will speak about Tips for Moderators & Best Book Types for Book Groups on Sunday, October 9 at 2 p.m. Doris is an author, teacher and moderated the evening library book group for many years.
The second program features Rosalind Reisner, a librarian, blogger and Reader’s Advisory expert who will share reading suggestions in Great New Fiction for Book Groups on Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m.
We have something for sports fans as well. John Nolan and John Cronin of the Baseball Discussion Group will present a discussion of A History of Same-City World Series Games on Sunday, October 23 at 2 p.m. Their knowledge of baseball history and good humor will make this an entertaining and lively discussion for everybody.
