Young EMS Volunteers Receive Scholarships

Five Junior Members of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad were recipients if this year’s Alice Nichols Memorial Scholarship. The fund was established in memory of a long time squad volunteer who passed away unexpectedly in 2000. Alice had been an active volunteer for over 30 years and was serving as the squad’s President at the time of her death. The scholarship is funded through private contributions and benefits graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college.
This year’s winners are: Brendan Kaelin, Catherine Menning, Margaret Burd, Emily Donohue, and Alexandra Pohl.
Alexandra Pohl was also a recipient of the New Jersey State EMS Council Cadet Scholarship which benefits high school seniors who serve as EMS volunteers. Alex completed her training and state certification as an Emergency Medical Technician last summer and plans to continue to serve as an EMS volunteer at the Drexel Campus First Aid Squad.
The all-volunteer First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. For information, please call 908-277- 9479, or visit their web site at: www.summitems.org.
