Select Choir Performs at Citifield

On Friday, April 29th, the Deerfield Select Chorus, from the Mountainside School District, performed the National Anthem at a NY Mets game under the direction of Deerfield music teacher, Jared Rosenblum. This is the third year that the chorus has performed at CitiField. The staff from the Mets commented that they were “blown away” by the sound of the chorus and couldn’t believe that such young students could produce such a beautiful sound. The crowd at the game cheered loudly when the anthem was over.
The students were very excited about performing at the game. It is such a unique opportunity to sing in front of thousands of screaming fans. This is only one of the many performance opportunities that the Deerfield Select Choir provides the students. A few of the members of the select choir also performed for the General Assembly at the United Nations earlier this year. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The children sang an original song that was written for them called, We All See The Stars. Other performance venues included Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall Students in grades 5-8 are eligible to audition for Select Choir. To audition, students sing 30 measures of a song of their choice, and are tested on their ability to match pitch.
Many of the students in Select Choir are in 5th grade and look forward to continuing in the program as well as the school musical. Many of the 8th grade students would like to continuing performing in high school and would like to go on to a professional career in music and acting.
