Memo From The Mayor

To all Kenilworth, the year is halfway through and I’m sure we’re all wishing for a warmer month than May. I hope everyone got to go out to the Kenilworth Street Fair. Later this year I’d like to get an opinion from you the residenta; is it fall or spring for an event like this?
On May 18 we had “Every 15 Minutes” a scenario simulating a tragic MVA at David Brearley. It is my hope and all involved that this will be an eye opener to our young future drivers. Thank you to the KPD, KFD/FAS, Atlantic, EFD (Tim Murphy), teachers and all the students who participated you all did an outstanding job making it as life like as possible. (If I forgot anyone I apologize in advance.) I’d also like to thank the Veterans Affairs Committee; Commander Robert Jeans, American Legion Post 470 Commander Ed Sudnik, Borough Clerk Laura Reinertsen, Councilwoman Kay Ceceri, Councilman Gerry Laudati and Historian Walter Boright for spearheading the effort in getting the banners and street signs for this year’s Memorial Day. If you take a walk uptown, the banners are affixed to the light poles and are honoring our 17 KIA’s. Additionally, commemorative signs with the servicemen’s names will be placed on the street signs as close as possible to where they lived. Memorial day serves to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, this day should be kept in our hearts everyday as a stark reminder that Freedom isn’t free. When you see a veteran, thank them for their service, they deserve it.
June 11, is our Relay for Life event at the David Brearly HS Track. The event is an opportunity for our community to come together to honor survivors of cancer, to remember those who have lost the battle and to raise funds to fight back against a disease that has taken so much. Reminder, this is an all-night event and I understand it might be a little noisy at times and possibly a little inconvenient to a few. But for such a good cause, one night is not too much to ask. Thank you in advance for understanding.
June also means the official ending of school; residents be mindful of our youngsters. Kenilworth Recreation also will be starting its summer programs; they have a lot of exciting things planned so stay tuned.
I want to also remind you that the Kenilworth Library will be open in the summer months “Check-In” at www.kenilworthlibrary.org to see the whole host of events for kids and adults alike.
For any and all of the events you can go on our web site www.kenilworthborough.com for details and schedules. I want to remind our Residents as the warmer weather approaches to get out and get healthy, take a walk up the Boulevard and visit our stores, their success means Kenilworth’s continued success.
In conclusion, I’d like to say my first 6 months have been an experience! It is an honor and a pleasure to serve as your Mayor. Thank you all for being the great Kenilworthians I know you to be! I will say this over and over again, it takes everyone to make a great town. Stay safe and alert everyone.
