National History Day Competition

Green Brook Middle School Students Participate In National History Day Competition

On Saturday, March 5, five students from Green Brook Middle School participated in the National History Day competition. Jason Allen, Annabell Pu, Katie Tan, Jack White, and Vivian Zhang were proud to represent Green Brook Middle School. This year marked the first time that students from Green Brook Middle School participated in the National History Day competition. Students in the NHD competition can document a historical event through performance art, a poster exhibit, a scholarly essay, creating a website, or making a documentary. The Green Brook Middle School students created a documentary entitled “The Sixth Mass Extinction”.
The event on March 5 was a regional competition to determine which students would compete in the state finals in May. Even though the Green Brook Middle School students made an impressive documentary, they were not chosen to move onto the state finals. While the outcome was not what they desired, the students learned so much in their research. It was an academic pursuit that challenged the students and taught them lessons they will carry forward for many years.
