Almost, Maine: A Romantic Tale At Library

The Hudson Shakespeare Company returns for the first time in 2016 to the Kenilworth Public Library! Join us on Monday, April 4 at 7:00pm for a one-night-only performance of Almost, Maine. This romantic comedy by playwright John Cariani opens the library’s annual Bard on the Boulevard series, which will continue through the summer.
On a cold crisp late winter evening, in a charming little town without a zip code, people find love, friendship and unexpected connections in Almost, Maine. A woman carries her heart, broken into nineteen pieces, in a small paper bag. A man pursues a lost love and finds it in an unexpected place. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags, or compress the mass into the size of a diamond. These playful and surreal experiences are commonplace on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, for the humorous and plainspoken citizens of Almost. The quirky comedy serves up a series of loosely connected tales about  love, each with a compelling couple and a touch of sorcery at its center, making for the perfect early spring play.
The Hudson Shakespeare Company of Jersey City was founded in 1992 and is now in the midst of its 24th season of touring Shakespeare Theater.
Funding for “The Bard on the Boulevard” has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
