Kenilworth Library has Big Plans for 2015 Kids Summer Reading

“Every Hero Has A Story” has been announced as the theme for the Kenilworth Public Library’s 2015 summer reading program.  Registration for the library’s summer reading clubs for children and teens between the ages of 2 and 18 will begin on June 15.   The first 250 children to register will receive a free summer reading  goody bag that contains a calendar of events, program fliers and other items of interest to curious young minds.

Summer has lots going on for young readers who visit the Kenilworth Public Library between June 29 and August 13.  In addition to  being able to earn free paperback books based on the amount of time  spent reading, children  who are members of the various reading clubs may participate in the following morning activities: Monday PJ Storytime (6:30 – 7:00pm) for ages 3 and up, Tuesday Lapsit (10:30-10:50) for newborns through age 2; Wednesday Toddler Time (10:30-10:50 ) for 2 year olds, and Thursday  Bingo (10:30-11:00) for ages 4 and up.  Additionally, the library will also offer “Friday Technology and Craft sessions (11:00-12:00) for ages 4 and up and  for which preregistration  required, beginning one week prior to each session for Kenilworth residents and, space permitting, 2 days prior for children from other communities.

Superheroes Of New Jersey will be held on Monday, June 29 at 7:00 – 7:45pm for children ages 6 & up and their families. Children will be entertained and educated about the most important superheroes from our state, who made a difference in history, science, sports and the arts.  This program will be presented by Walter Choroszewski.

This program was funded by The Friends of the Kenilworth Public Library.

How To Draw Superheroes will be held on Monday, July 6 at 5:00 – 6:30pm for children and teens ages 8 and up. Professional artist, Doug Baron will offer a workshop providing hands on opportunities to draw favorite superheroes.  Registration is required.

Kenilworth residents may begin to register one week prior to this event. Out of town residents may begin to register two days prior to this event.

Lego At The Library will be held on Wednesdays this summer, beginning July 1 – August 5 at 3:30 – 4:30pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old.  Children ages 4 – 9 years old must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Each week children will have an opportunity to build their own creative project based on a weekly theme.

Registration is required.

Kenilworth residents may begin to register one week prior to each session.

Lego at the Library is made possible through a grant from the Walmart Local Giving program.

Children between the ages of 4 and 12 who are members of one of the library’s reading clubs  may also register for the following special evening events:”Our Earth: What A Gas! presented by The Garand Falloons on July 2; “Monkey Monkey Music Live!” presented by Monkey Monkey Music, on July 9; “The Magic Of Recycling” presented by Bill Kerwood on July 16; “Origami Swami” presented by Megan Hicks on July 23: and “Recycle Mania”  presented by Billy B on July 30,  and “Going Green”  presented by Muscleman Mike and Allie Gator on August 6. Evening programs begin at 7:00 PM. Registration for each of these events will open one week prior to the event, with priority given to Kenilworth residents.   If space permits, registration will open two days prior to each event for children who reside in other communities.

These special events have been funded by a Recycling Grant and given to the Borough of Kenilworth.

Because we are proud of our readers, the Kenilworth Public Library will give everyone the chance to celebrate their accomplishments with our Sixth Annual LibraryFest , an open house scheduled for Thursday, August 13, between the hours of 5:30 and 7:00.  Participants will thrill to the “Amazing Recycling Zone”, filled with interactive science experiments and circus skills presented by Lisa Lou & Mr. Fish” receive a special balloon sculpture made just for them by Mark Dolson; marvel at the sleight of hand of magician Ran’D Shine, visit with beautiful Paso Fino horses in our parking lot (weather permitting), and receive a special gift from the library.   Families attending LibraryFest should anticipate a forty-five minute time frame for participation in all of the evening’s events and all children in attendance must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.    No registration will be required to attend LibraryFest.   LibraryFest has been funded by The Friends Of The Kenilworth Public Library, and a Recycling Grant given to the Borough of Kenilworth.
