Tashkent School children thank the New Providence Community

Maryam Hodjaeva is a rising senior from New Providence at the Academy of Allied Health Sciences. Over the last 3 summers, with help of New Providence and other neighboring communities, she has collected and donated hundreds of books written in English to school libraries in underprivileged schools in Uzbekistan.

As This was part of her volunteer work to teach conversational English in these local schools to students aged 8 to 14 years old. Each summer, Maryam spent 30-40 hours in Tashkent, Uzbekistan working with these students to improve their English skills and learn more about American culture.

Maryam has been reaching out to the New Providence community through Facebook forums and collecting used books, mostly for children. These books are then transported to schools and donated to local school libraries and English teachers to be used in classes during the year.

Maryam Hodjaeva sends a big “Thank You” to the New Providence community for their kindness on behalf of many schoolchildren and teachers in Uzbekistan who were impacted by the generosity and care of our local communities.
