Summit Library Celebrates 150 Years
Limited-Edition Cards
The Summit Free Public Library is delighted to unveil limited-edition library cards to commemorate its 150th anniversary. The cards feature historic etchings by Madeleine Cooke depicting the Library in its early years, alongside a contemporary interpretation of the modern-day Library by artist Shara Bailey. Together, they represent a visual journey through the Library’s four distinct eras: the present-day Summit Playhouse building, the Carnegie Library, the Library’s reconstruction in the 1960s, and the present-day building. Patrons can choose from one of the four commemorative designs when replacing their current card or obtaining a new card, while supplies last.
Signing up for a library card is always free and unlocks access to a collection of resources: books, ebooks, items such as power washers and telescopes from the Library’s “Library of Things”, Museum Passes, and much more. As an added bonus, during the month of September, Library cardholders receive discounts at local businesses for simply showing their library card in celebration of library card sign-up month. Replacement cards cost $3.00 and come with a new card number; and limited-edition cards are available while supplies last.
“Library cards are tangible representations of knowledge, access, and lifelong learning,” said Amy Behr-Shields, director. “By creating these limited-edition cards, we are hoping that library patrons will also see them as a source of community pride and a cherished keepsake.”
