Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department
Jenna Tracy, 37, along with Brett Ulrich, 46, are the newest members of the Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department (CBVFD).
Jenna joins Ella Scannell and Annemarie Lord as the third active female member. Jenna, a lifelong resident of Chatham Borough, is also the third generation of her family to join CBVFD. Her grandfather, Donald Tracy, joined in 1967 and her father, Dennis Tracy, joined in 1983. It was shortly after her father’s passing in May 2023 that Jenna decided to follow in his footsteps and legacy to join the Engine 2 Company. She has started training and will be attending the Fire Fighter 1 (FF1) class at the Morris County Fire Academy in August 2024.
Jenna has been working at ECLC of New Jersey Chatham School for the past nine years – ECLC of New Jersey is an accredited, nonprofit, educating students ages 5-21 with severe learning and/or language disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome, or multiple disabilities at schools in Chatham and Ho-Ho-Kus and is excited to continue serving the Chatham community as a first responder.
“It is a pleasure to welcome Jenna to the CBVFD. She will be the third generation in a time-honored tradition of serving the residents of Chatham Borough. Both her grandfather and father served for many years before her. Although the path will be difficult and challenging in the beginning as she attends the Morris County Fire Academy in August, I’m confident that she will do great. She will be attending with two more probationary firefighters who will go through their FF1 training together. I wish her a safe and extensive span of service as a “legacy” member of the CBVFD.” said CBVFD Chief Pete Glogolich.
Rescue Company Lieutenant and Recruitment Committee Chair Shell Lee shared, “It’s truly commendable that Jenna and Brett have stepped up to serve as a volunteer firefighter in addition to their work commitments and support for family and friends. Volunteer firefighters (estimated 65% of the total number of firefighters in the U.S.) play a crucial role in safeguarding communities, often going above and beyond to protect lives and property. Volunteer firefighting is a selfless endeavor, and it’s heartwarming to witness individuals like Jenna and Brett dedicating their time and effort to serve their neighbors. These unsung heroes respond to emergencies, participate in community events, and foster strong bonds within our neighborhoods. Their commitment ensures that our communities remain safe.”
The Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1898, and is comprised entirely of volunteer firefighters, including probationary and junior members who provide services 24 hours a day/365 days per year. The department operates its headquarters at Fire House Plaza and has responded to 396 calls in the last year, both within Chatham, and in the form of Mutual Aid to departments in our neighboring communities. Last year, CBVFD celebrated their 125th anniversary of serving the community!
