Troop 23 Visits Boston

Boy Scout Troop 23 spent the Memorial Day weekend on a 4-day trip to Boston, Massachusetts. Staying in a cabin and tents at New England Base Camp in Milton, MA, the Scouts travelled by train into Boston on Saturday and Sunday.

The Scouts visited 16 historic sites along the Freedom Trail, including Paul Revere’s House, the Old North Church, and the Bunker Hill Monument. Each Scout earned a medal for completing the trail and learning important facts about American history.

A highlight of the hike was going aboard the USS Constitution, the oldest ship in the United States Navy, where the Scouts got to hoist Troop 23’s iconic yellow flag up the main mast of the sailing ship.

On the ride home, Troop 23 stopped at Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA, where they participated in a Memorial Day service on the deck of the battleship USS Massachusetts. The service included a 21-gun salute fired from the ship’s 5-inch guns. After the service, the Scouts were able to tour the destroyer USS Joseph Kennedy and the submarine USS Lionfish.
