Bessie Coleman visits STS
St. Theresa School in Kenilworth kicked off Black History Month with a visit from aviator Bessie Coleman.
Students from 2nd to 8th grade got to hear the life story of Bessie Coleman through the reenactment and interpretation from Dr. Daisy Century. Dr. Century is from the American Historical Theatre who portrays other historical figures such as Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman.
The auditorium was mesmerized by the story of how Bessie Coleman was able to overcome obstacles in the early 20’s, she took the kids on the journey from the cotton fields to the aviation school in France. Students then did a question and answer session at the end of the one hour performance.
