Members of the Long Hill Township and the Warren Township Police Department participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run which was held on June 9. They joined with over 3,000 law enforcement officers from over 300 New Jersey police departments. They each take a turn running one of 26 separate legs carrying the “Flame of Hope,” the Special Olympic torch, throughout the day which began at 4:45 a.m. and snakes through more than 300 towns.
The run ends in the evening on the same day at the Special Olympics New Jersey summer games opening ceremony held at The College of New Jersey. The event started in 1984 to join a national effort. Its goal is to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics New Jersey. You can learn more and donate by visiting www.sonj.org.
