Four young fashion designers won first prize in their age group at the 11th Annual Project Fabricland Fashion Show held on Sunday May 12 at the North Plainfield High School auditorium.
Modeled after the successful TV series Project Runway, each year Fabricland chooses a theme to inspire their students. This year the theme was ‘Make it Iconic’. Students had to choose their favorite icon (Lady Gaga, Madonna, etc.) and create a diva inspired garment. A panel of local professional dressmakers chose the winners based on creativity, quality of sewing, fit, use of inspiration and a design board.
A crowd of over 200 people were entertained by the Mark Peterson Band. NJ’s own Helen Castillo from Project Runway (season 12 and All- Stars season 4) presented the awards. Ticket proceeds of $1,000 were donated to Dress for Success whose mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life (https://morriscounty.dressforsuccess.org).
