Cranford’s BSA Troop 80 Hikes the Monmouth Battlefield

Troop 80 Hikes the Monmouth Battlefield

Submitted by Peter McDevitt

Cranford’s Troop 80 had their Spring camping trip from April 21st-23rd at Quail Ridge Scout Reservation in Manalapan, NJ. During this trip, the Scouts hiked Monmouth Battlefield State Park, the site of the 1778 American Revolution battle made famous by Molly Pitcher. They followed the 3-mile loop around the park to landmarks of the battle. The Scouts also worked on their Cooking Merit Badge. Scout Patrols created a menu for three meals, and shopped for their ingredients ahead of time. Then they worked together to prepare and cook their meals. The last meal of the trip was a chili cook-off, which was cooked by wood fire in a Dutch oven. Overall, a fun and successful trip!

Troop 80 meets from September-June at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford, 11 Springfield Ave., on Mondays from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. If you have interest in learning more about Scouting, please stop by!
