Independence Day Kick-Off

At 10:00 am on Sunday, July 4th, the Westfield Historical Society hosted patriotic readings broadcast from the porch of the Reeve House.

Dozens attended for the beautiful morning readings. Boy Scouts held a flag ceremony and salute, and Revolutionary War flags were on display, and guests were honored with a visit by Jeanne-Thérèse Tellès d’Acosta, comtesse de Rochambeau (a re-enactor courtesy of the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association). Readings included The Declaration of Independence, the original Bill of Rights, and Lincoln’s second inaugural address. Youngsters in attendance were treated to ringing the historic Town Bell which resides at the Reeve House. It was a fitting holiday kick-off.

Since 1968, the 501(c)(3) non-profit Westfield Historical Society has worked to preserve, interpret and encourage interest in history, Westfield, and its residents through educational efforts and community outreach programs.
