Habitat for Humanity to Host Virtual Fitness Week Event Starting April 19th

Habitat Youth Asks Community to Get Up, Get Moving, Make a Difference and Shelter Strong, With Virtual Fitness Week Event

We can get through this period of sheltering-in-place by staying positive, supporting one another and sheltering STRONG!  Join Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity (RV Habitat) and Habitat Youth during the week of April 19th to use this time as we shelter-in-place to do something really positive for yourself, your family and your community. Habitat Youth, members of eight Habitat service groups representing local high schools in Hunterdon and Somerset counties, has created a virtual community fitness week – Shelter Strong.  The purpose of this event is to help individuals and families stay physically fit, build virtual camaraderie and use their time to support the RV Habitat mission of providing affordable home ownership opportunities to build strength, stability and self-reliance for area families.  Register today at https://rvhabitat.org/shelter-strong-event/. Registration involves a suggested gift of $10 per person or more, and registrants can make an even greater impact by asking friends and family to use the registration link to sponsor their participation.

Shelter Strong runs from Sunday, April 19th through Saturday, April 25th.  Registrants will receive an invitation to a private Shelter Strong Facebook Group that provides information and guidance for the week. Habitat Youth will get participants ready and motivated with a pre-event kick-off on Saturday evening April 18th at 7:00 p.m. Each day during the event will have a suggested fitness activity, but it’s up to participants to decide how they want to move and how often.  Walk, run, pedal, dance, do yoga — the choice is yours! Participants are welcome to engage in outdoor activities as well, provided they are singular or household member activities, at least 6 feet apart from others.

Habitat Youth will be awarding prizes to those who share the most-liked photos and/orvideos of their Shelter Strong experiences throughout the week on social media using #RVHabitatShelterStrong.   A prize will also be given to the participant who generates the highest level of donations.  At the end of the week, all Shelter Strong participants will receive a virtual certificate of completion.

RV Habitat is dedicated to building safe, affordable homes for low- to moderate-income families in Hunterdon and Somerset counties. RV Habitat recently completed a new affordable home, along with the community, for the Okagbue family and their two young boys. The Okagbues are grateful to have this home, now more than ever.  By participating in Shelter Strong, you can help RV Habitat and the community, build its next safe, affordable home for another deserving local family.

Local fitness professionals who want to give back to their community at this time can contribute a video fitness class for the event by emailing cfry@rvhabitat.org.  Links will need to be submitted no later than April 16th.
