At its meeting held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, Summit Common Council unanimously approved the appointment of Police Captain Andrew Bartolotti as the next Chief of Police in Summit, NJ. Captain Bartolotti replaced Police Chief Robert K. Weck who retired on June 1, 2020.

“It is with great confidence and enthusiasm that I appointed Captain Andrew Bartolotti to be Summit’s next chief of police,” explains Summit Mayor Nora Radest. “Captain Bartolotti is a 20 year veteran of the Summit Police Department and is an uncommonly well-qualified officer. He has the deepest respect from his fellow officers and I am certain he will be an excellent chief.”

Andrew Bartolotti joined the Summit Police Department in 2000, spending four years as a police officer before being assigned to the detective bureau in 2004. Earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from Farleigh Dickinson University, he reached the rank of sergeant in 2007, lieutenant in 2011 and captain in 2012. In 2017, Captain Bartolotti represented the City of Summit and police department with distinction when he was selected as one of six law enforcement executives from the State of New Jersey to attend the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia and train alongside some of the worlds most accomplished police leaders. Since April 1, he has been serving as the Officer-in-Charge while Chief Weck is on extended leave following a positive COVID-19 coronavirus diagnosis.

“As chief it will be my priority to continue improving the quality of life in Summit for all of its citizens through ethical, transparent and progressive policing,” Bartolotti said. “The Summit Police Department will continue to build relationships through outreach, engagement and our proven track record of responsiveness to the needs of the community.”
