Lottery open for Roselle Park Community Garden Plots

Lottery open for Community Garden

The Roselle Park Environmental Commission is accepting applications to rent plots at the community garden for the 2023 growing season, so residents can grow nutritious organic produce. The community garden is located at 133 Valley Road in Roselle Park.

The Commission will hold a lottery for Roselle Park residents for the right to rent out a 4’ x 8’ raised garden bed, at a cost of $50. The beds are filled with organic compost and watered with an automated irrigation system. Members will receive seeds and a limited amount of seedlings to get them started. Anyone interested in entering the lottery should go to sites.google.com/view/RPGarden, or e-mail the commission at environmentalcommission@rosellepark.net

In addition to the rental beds, the Commission and a team of local volunteers will have “market” beds that grow produce for local food pantries and residents in need throughout the community. Anyone interested in volunteering can text “@rpgarden” to the number 81010 to sign up for text alerts.

“We not only want to use this garden to grow food, but to educate, serve, and build community as we have done for many years,” said Tim Coakley, the Commission chair. “We also hope to partner with the Borough on events at the garden over the season.”

The Commission will accept applications for the lottery until Friday, April 21, 2023. The winners will be selected through the lottery on Saturday, April 22. One application per household, please.
