Pre-K Visits Japan

In the Tools of the Mind Pre-K program there is one week of background knowledge on the place that the main characters in the Magic Treehouse books series (Jack and Annie) visit. To get ready for the Magic Treehouse Book called Night of the Ninjas that takes place in ancient Japan, we learned about ninjas and samurais, about Mount Fuji and the beautiful cherry blossoms. We also learned how to count to 10 in Japanese and practiced calligraphy by painting the Japanese numbers on scrolls.
After learning many facts about Japan, Kindergarten students at Linden School No. 8 are ready to read The Magic Treehouse Book, “Night of the Ninjas,”. The Japanese “Princess Mononoke” returned on January 12th to Ms. Josefina Gil’s Kindergarten classroom at School No. 8 to perform a traditional tea ceremony, bringing a little bit of that culture to life. The children loved taking off their shoes and learning a few Japanese words and customs. After tasting the tea, they very politely said, “It was delicious!” Children pictured are Bartosz Blicharz, Zuzanna Slawinski, Isabella Avila and Brittany Moncayo Noguera. Sayonara!…. Doesn’t Ms. Gil make a wonderful Princess?!
