Junior League of Summit Receives Grant for Thrift Shop Renovation

JLS Receives Grant for Thrift Shop Renovation

Submitted by Dana Felmet

The Junior League of Summit (JLS) recently received a $1,000 grant from Investors Foundation. The money contributed to the Junior League of Summit Thrift Shop’s recent basement expansion that created additional storage space for donations received by the Shop. The revenue generated by JLS Thrift Shop is invested in grants and scholarships awarded to community organizations and individuals. The grant will help further the JLS mission of supporting the community through grants and scholarships by funding the basement expansion of the JLS Thrift Shop.

“As the amount of donations has increased each year, the shop reached its storage capacity. With the completion of the dig out, it will give the shop more space to store donations throughout the year. The revenue generated from the shop will go back into the community through grants and scholarships,” says JLS Thrift Shop Chair, Stephanie Giblin. The basement expansion is officially complete and the Thrift Shop happily accepts donations on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each week.

The Junior League of Summit Thrift Shop in Summit was established in 1934 and offers new and gently used clothing and shoes for men, women and children, toys, decorative items for the home, housewares, and furniture that is deeply discounted. It is the primary fundraiser for the Junior League of Summit and has provided the resources for the League’s many grants, projects, programs, and scholarships over the years. Since its inception, the Shop has raised over $3,000,000 to benefit Summit and surrounding communities.
