Fanwood Clean Community Day/Earth Day brings out volunteers for 30th year

For the 30th consecutive year, Fanwood’s citizens, volunteers and Clean Community Committee came together to pick up trash and celebrate the environment for Earth Day. Mayor Colleen Mahr, the Borough Council and Public Works Director Clint Dicksen kicked off the morning at the train station with words of encouragement and the distribution of bags, gloves and trash pickers. Volunteers were divided into groups and dispersed into different areas of Fanwood to pick up trash. This year’s giveaway was reusable grocery bags in an effort to encourage people to stop using plastic grocery bags, which clog and disrupt the recycling stream. Fanwood also was awarded a grant of $7,500 from NJ American Water for work at the Fanwood Nature Center. Thanks to all who’ve made our Earth Day celebration a success for 30 years!
