Summit Luminary Fund

Despite the frigid temperatures and biting wind on Christmas Eve, The Summit Luminary Fund once again illuminated the city, while raising a record amount for local charities. A very big thank you goes out to all who participated by purchasing luminaries or making a donation!

In its 41st year, and under the longtime, dedicated leadership of President Barbara Romano, The Summit Luminary Fund raised over $145,000 in 2022.

Thanks to the generosity of over 185 street captains, and Area Leaders Meg Ahern, John Blomfield, Francie Cho, Pam Kuhn and Linda Massengill, 177 streets in Summit were once again magical sights to behold as the sun set on December 24th and the glow of over 43,000 luminaries emerged.

The Fund is pleased to be supporting the following groups with its proceeds:

  • Bridges’ Project Connect-Summit Program
  • Christ Child Society of Summit: Layette Program; Area Baby Center: Diaper Distribution; and School Supply & Backpack Program
  • Family Promise of Union County
  • G.R.A.C.E.
  • SAGE Eldercare Spend a Day
  • SHIP
  • Summit’s Senior Connections
  • Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad
  • Valerie Fund Children’s Center at Overlook Hospital

The Fund is partially underwritten by Lois Schneider Realtor, for which it is grateful.

If you would like to become a street captain or volunteer in any way, please contact Barbara Romano at barbararomano@comcast.net.  It is only through the gracious spirits and generous time commitment of volunteers that this endeavor is possible, and the Fund is extraordinarily  grateful to them.
