Union Fire Department Blesses New Fire Apparatuses
A new ladder truck and engine began serving the Township of Union after the Union Fire Department hosted a ceremony at Fire Headquarters for the official blessing of the apparatuses on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
“We are welcoming today two of our new apparatuses, Ladder One and Engine One,” said Union Fire Chef Michael Scanio, as he began the ceremony. “First I need to thank the Township Committee, without them this wouldn’t have been possible if safety wasn’t at the forefront of their agenda.”
These new, customized apparatuses are replacing a 1983 Mach Aerial Scope Tower Ladder and a 1995 Pierce Arrow Pumper. The Union Fire Department maintains a fleet of 6 engines, 3 ladder trucks and 2 Squads.
“This is a historic moment, we see on a regular basis the amount of fires and work that our men and women firefighters deal with. It’s important that we not only have the capacity but the infrastructure and the equipment to deal with those fires,” stated Mayor Michele Delisfort. “We will always support our Fire Department in their endeavors.
“Our Engine One and Ladder Truck is a welcome addition to our arsenal of equipment,” said Fire Commissioner Manuel Figueiredo, “this upgrade is to help our residents, for whom the fire department works so hard to keep safe.”
The blessing of the apparatuses was made by Fire Chaplain Father Chuck.
The apparatuses are soon to be outfitted with equipment, fire hose and radios. Upon completion, training will begin on proper operations.
