Linden Back Pack to School For You Day

On Monday, September 21st, nearly 1,000 Linden school kids received back packs and school supplies and 400 parents participated in the “Back Pack to School For You” event held at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade on Wood Avenue. “Back pack and school supplies don’t seem like much, but every little bit counts in helping the children and families of our community,” said Mayor Armstead.
The success of the event was a community-wide effort and partnership by Mayor Armstead, the City of Linden, its internal departments, the Mayor’s Youth Commission, individuals, volunteers, community and faith based groups along with corporate sponsors.
“I thank everyone on behalf of this office and staff for putting Linden youth, families as well as education first and exemplifying the finest traditions of community service,” said Mayor Armstead.
Along with the back packs and supplies, all participants were served refreshments and listened to the various genres of music during this festive and memorable community event.
CEO of Communities In Cooperation, Inc., Pastor Pam (Pamela Jones), who spearheaded the community effort, said “Mayor Derek Armstead is known for breaking barriers of business as usual in his embrace of millennials – the future of Linden. He along with many progressive minded individuals helped to increase the event services by more than 35% and employed methods for smoother servicing of attendees compared to last year.”
Mayor Armstead continued, “This partnership effort builds and strengthens communities and at the same time assist youth and families from a collaborative network of shared resources. Just as important, it helps children realize that having the necessary school supplies are important to the learning process.”
