Hehnly Student Wins Columbus Essay Contest

When October rolls around most people’s attention turns to pumpkin picking, apple cider, and one of America’s most famous Italians, Christopher Columbus. Recently, the Clark UNICO Association sponsored a Columbus Day Essay contest, inviting students from throughout the town to write an essay about an Italian American that they felt made significant contributions to our world.
The winner from the Frank K. Hehnly School was fifth grade student, Reese Passuth. In her essay, Reese explained how Christopher Columbus founded the New World, but went a step further to share how his expedition changed life for many.
“I’m very proud of Reese and her essay,” explained Mrs. Bergin, Principal of Hehnly School. “She captured the important accomplishments of Christopher Columbus and shared them very eloquently.”
