Girls Ice Hockey Team Holds Yoga on the Green

On June 7th, the Westfield High School Girls Ice Hockey Team held Yoga on the Green to raise funds in anticipation of their second season in 2017/2018. Over 130 members of the community attended the fundraiser on the golf course at Shackamaxon Country Club. Gina Pachkowski, owner of Alluem Yoga in Cranford, donated her time and passion to lead the group in a 60- minute class assisted by Mindy Cullen and Karen Gilmour. Chris and Maire Olguin of Space in Westfield, a local sponsor, followed with a calming session of singing bowls and meditation. A poolside dinner followed. More than 20 additional local sponsors also lent their support. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss, to purchase items on their Wish List.
Last year the Blue Devils team became the 11th school in the state of New Jersey (and only the third public school) to field a girls’ ice hockey team. As a new high school program, the team is self-funded and has drawn tremendous support from Westfield and the surrounding community.
