Westfield to Host Director of NJ Historic Trust

Preservation Commission to Host Director of NJ Historic Trust, April 11

The Westfield Historic Preservation Commission will continue their 2019 Speaker Series with a presentation by Dorothy Guzzo, Executive Director of the New Jersey Historic Trust, on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the Westfield Municipal Building’s Community Room at 425 E. Broad Street. The event is free and open to the public.

As a leader in promoting heritage tourism in New Jersey, Ms. Guzzo’s remarks will highlight the benefits and economic importance of preserving historic neighborhoods and downtowns. Her talk will include tools and techniques for fostering successful preservation and feature examples from around the state.

Ms. Guzzo has been executive director of the New Jersey Historic Trust since 2008. The trust was created in 1967 to advance historic preservation in the state for the benefit of future generations through education, stewardship and financial investment programs.

Prior to joining the trust, Ms. Guzzo served as the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer for NJ from 1995 to 2008.  In that capacity, she oversaw the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places as well as several other certification and resource programs.  Previously she was the grants and project manager overseeing the restoration and development of state-owned historic sites.

Recognizing the cultural significance of Westfield’s historic and architectural heritage, the Historic Preservation Commission was established by municipal ordinance in 1985. The commission considers potential sites for historic designation and sponsors outreach programs, including the speaker series and Devlin preservation awards, to foster an appreciation of historic preservation.  For additional information, please visit westfieldnj.gov/historicpreservation.
