The Grand Opening of Watershed Learning Center

Rahway River Watershed Association “Watershed Learning Center” Opening

The public invited to a Big Bash on June 15 celebrating the opening of the RRWA Watershed Learning Center

The Rahway River Watershed Association invites the public to celebrate the opening of the RRWA Watershed Learning Center, 337 East Milton Avenue, Rahway, NJ, with a Big Bash to be held on Saturday,  June 15, 2019, from 1 to 5 p.m.

This free event is offered as a gift to the residents of the Rahway River Watershed. Festivities include a live band, environmental exhibits, presentations, speakers, food, beer and wine (fee for beer and wine). Rahway Mayor Ray Giacobbe will preside over the ribbon cutting ceremony. Entertainment is provided by the versatile Bob Benson Blues Band, who will be playing rockabilly, swing, blues and a variety of other genres. NY/NJ Baykeeper CEO Greg Remaud will speak about the condition of the Rahway River and the New York Harbor Estuary.

The generosity of Rahway residents, businesses and city officials is impressive. Rahway Department of Public Work’s continued support has insured the event will go off without a hitch. A group of community volunteers recently planted three gardens – two pollinator and one rain garden – on the premise of the Watershed Learning Center. The gardens are designed to increase biodiversity in the area.

The Rahway River Watershed stretches across 24 towns and 3 counties. Water from the Rahway River supplies drinking water to Rahway City residents. The RRWA Watershed Learning Center aims to attract residents from all 24 towns who are interested in learning about local environmental issues, water quality, habitat, native and invasive plants and animals, green infrastructure, flooding issues, and a host of other subjects. Bat houses, built and donated by Rahway Cub Scout Pack 47, have been installed and are waiting for guests to arrive. The Watershed Learning Center is a hub for an annual water quality monitoring program initiated by the Rahway River Watershed Association in 2018.
