Pianist Gil Scott Chapman to Perform at Cranford Community Center

Please join the Friends of the Cranford Public Library for an evening with concert pianist Gil Scott Chapman on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cranford Community Center. Gil is a graduate of Westfield High School, and he currently resides in Westfield.

A classically trained jazz pianist, Gil Scott Chapman holds a B.F.A. in Jazz Studies and Masters of Music (improvisation) from the University of Michigan. He has won and placed in a number of classical piano competitions, performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Monterey Jazz Festival, and performed alongside many celebrated artists. He helped to develop the Gershwin Initiative, a long-term partnership between the University of Michigan and the Gershwin family, bringing the music of George and Ira Gershwin to scholars and audiences worldwide.

In his own words: “What thrills me about music, especially jazz, is the unexplored, the unknown. And the irony is you’re completely unaware of that unexplored territory until you get there — that journey excites me!”

No registration is required for this free concert. The Cranford Community Center is located at 220 Walnut Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016, and is accessible to all.
