Submitted by Michael Maziekien

The national Library Summer Reading Program theme for the year is “Libraries Rock,” and the Cranford Public Library takes such things seriously. In their 2018 Summer Concert Series, the Friends of the Cranford Public Library will highlight local artists and a diverse range of musical styles; all held at the Cranford Community Center.
The first in the series is “Rewind: Back to Classic Rock.” Presented Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Beat the heat with the hottest hits of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. New Jersey-based three-piece band Rewind will play the songs of great American artists, the British Invasion, and the Summer of Love. Rewind are John Delgiodice (guitar), Ken Cohen (drums) and Rich Loughlin (bass).
The Odessa Klezmer Band will perform July 11 at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of bandleader, accordionist and vocalist Ed Goldberg, the Odessa Klezmer Band has played the joyous dance music of the Klezmorim (Jewish folk musicians) throughout the tri-state area for over 30 years. With an eclectic mix of Eastern European and Middle Eastern tunes, including polka and czardas, the OKB is known for inspiring audiences to dance in the aisles.
The Amir Vahab Trio will be performing on August 15 at 7:30 p.m. Honored as a peacemaker and virtuoso, Amir Vahab is a composer/vocalist and lecturer specializing in a wide variety of traditional Persian instruments: the tanbour, ney, daf, tar, and oud. Amir is noted for his expertise in Persian culture and history, and for the spirituality present in his music and teachings. His songs weave fiery instrumentals and melodies of the ancient lands of the Middle East that include Persian, Turkish, Azeri and beyond.
No registration is required for these free concerts. The Cranford Community Center is located at 220 Walnut Avenue, Cranford, New Jersey, and is accessible to all.
