The Chatham Township Historical Society presents “New Jersey Mills: Whatever Happened to Them?” with the popular local historian Phil Jaeger on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chatham Township Municipal Building at 58 Meyersville Road. More than a thousand water-powered grist, saw, cotton and woolen mills provided food, shelter and clothing in New Jersey in the late 1800s. Over the decades, some of those mills were converted to other uses; many fell into ruin; and others simply vanished. Surprisingly, a few still function today. Phil’s program examines the current state of many of the mills built in centuries past and includes “then and now” comparisons. The talk is free and open to the public.
