Arthur L. Johnson High School Holocaust/Genocide Studies Teacher Franklin Stebbins was recently awarded the “Gina Lanceter Power of One Award” presented by the State of New Jersey’s Commission on Holocaust and Genocide Education.
The award was created by Lanceter’s family and the Commission in her honor. According to a letter from Dr. Lawrence Glaser, Executive Director of the Commission, Lanceter is a Holocaust survivor who has “discussed her experiences with children and adults for over 20 years and always emphasizes the importance of being an “upstander” and how one person can make a difference.”
At the year-end meeting of the Commission on June 5, 2018 at Hanover Park High School, Stebbins was honored for his efforts to “reduce bias and prejudice and in promoting humanity among all persons.” He received a certificate and $200 to purchase books for his classroom.
Superintendent of Schools Edward Grande stated, “Mr. Stebbins is an innovative educator who is always looking to bring new programs to our high school and district that will benefit our students.”
