Franklin School Student ambassadors took action as they hosted their annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand during the week of November 14, 2016. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is a national organization that helps raise money and awareness of childhood cancer. Their mission is to “to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.” Their founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer shortly before her first birthday. At the age of four she opened her first lemonade stand in her front yard and raised over $2,000. Alex unfortunately lost her battle with cancer in 2004, but her legacy remains strong. In 2014, ALSF reached the $80 million fundraising mark, and continue to raise money in Alex’s memory with events being held all over the country.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand was a huge success and the students did an amazing job preparing and organizing the event on their own. The students raised over $332 in lemonade sales! When asked about her favorite part fourth grader Reiley Prempeh shared “My favorite part about the lemonade stand was helping as the cashier, I felt like a real adult with a job!” When asked about the fundraising success she told us “We raised so much money for kids who are sick, kids who are even younger than me. I’m glad we could help!”
