On October 21st, nine year old Melina Colonias celebrated National Make A Difference Day by raising money for the Union County Animal Shelter.
Melania, along with fellow classmates Selah Ford, Braden Caccamo, Charlie Oliviera, Stephan Weaver, and Sarah Luckenbook, sold Philly pretzels at Deerfield School in Mountainside for their cause. They were able to accomplish selling 200 pretzels in 25 minutes.
Melania is an ambassador for the Loukoumi Foundation, a nonprofit that encourages children to participate in making a positive impact on their local or global communities. The foundation also educates children on how to work hard to achieve their goals and promotes awareness and prevention of bullying through their anti-bullying campaign.
The students presented the funds to the Union County Animal Shelter the following week, and hope to continue the tradition of National Make A Difference Day each year.
