THE WOMAN’S CLUB OF WESTFIELD AWARDS 2016 SCHOLARSHIPS

The Woman’s Club of Westfield bestowed twelve, five thousand dollar one-time scholarships to twelve very deserving Westfield High School seniors recently at a general meeting of WCW held at the Masonic Lodge in Westfield. These included one Antique Department Scholarship and eleven general scholarships. All the members of the WCW congratulate these winning students along with their parents and wish the students many accomplishments in their college days and much success in their future careers.
The first scholarship is The Antiques Department award bestowed in the name of devoted, former member, Ruth L. Quadenfield. The winner this year is Bryanna Reinhard, daughter of Mary Campion and Dr. Ricky Rheinhardt. Bryanna is a member of the National Honor Society, first chair violinist in the Westfield School Chamber Orchestra plus captain and goalie for the girl’s school hockey team. Bryanna has volunteered at Children’s Hospital and Imagine. She will attend the University of California with plans to major in Bio-Chemistry.
GENERAL SCOLARSHIPS
Billy Cook is the son of Carol and William Cook. He played Westfield High lacrosse and soccer. Billy worked with the Fish hospitality program assisting homeless families housed in local churches. Billy is an academically dedicated student, his school work and his positive attitude will be a real asset for him in his future days at Perdue University majoring in Physics. Jessica Doyle is the daughter of Linda and Michael Doyle. She is a member of The National Honor Society and has been president of The Rotary Interact Club, The Informant News Network, and The French Club. Jessica is a creative and motivated young woman who plans to attend Franklin & Marshall College to major in Bio- Psychology.
Nicholas Kay has dedicated many hard hours to the wrestling team. He has been a tutor, teaching a student how to study and approach all subjects and has an innate ability to get along with others both inside and outside of the classroom. Nick’s talent and desire to succeed will serve him well as he continues his studies at Montclair State College.
Jesse Liu is the son of Tianying Jian and Ping Liu. He is a member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar. At school he is President of Operation Smile, co founder of the Math Club, a school swimmer and played clarinet with the Wood Ensemble. Jesse is a dedicated, hard working young man headed to Notre Dame.
Olivia Loggia is the daughter of Wendy and Christopher Loggia. She is a member of The National Society, The Spanish National Society and is an AP Scholar. Olivia has been the Feature’s Editor of Westfield High School’s Hi’s Eye, earned herself a Girl Scout Silver Award, and played clarinet in WHS Symphonic Band. She will attend Bucknell Univesity to major in English.
Amalia Montes is the daughter of; Mary Doherty and Hector Montes. She is the captain of the school’s basketball team. She is an optimistic student who has always strived to improve herself on and off the court. Amalia is a Peer Minister, Youth Leader, soccer player, and child sits for a family of six children. She will take her drive with her to Rutgers University to major in English.
Hopper Murray is the son of Kristi and James Murray. He is a member of the National Honor Society, The French Honor Society, Class President, and Cum Laude scorer on the National Latin Exam. Hooper is also founder of Gifts for Gold, a community service volunteer, and plays centerfield as well as pitcher on the school’s baseball team. He plans to attend The University of Michigan to study Business.
Julia Myers is the daughter of Nancy and Daniel Myers. She is a member and tutor of The National Honor Society. Julia has been a top student and runs three seasons of track. She has volunteered at a homeless shelter, been a transition leader, and worked summers as a lifeguard. Julia will attend the University of Rochester with plans to major in Business. Amelia Ritter is the daughter of Joelene and Joseph Ritter. She has earned the esteemed Silver and Bronze Girl Scout Awards, been part of Westfield High School Theater/ Drama productions creating sets for musicals and plays Amelia has been active as a performer at Folio Coffeehouse and worked at Learning Express. She will attend The University of Delaware majoring in Visual Communications.
Drew Russo is the son of Christine and Vincent Russo. He is a member of the National Honor Society, sang with Sharps and Flats, and has had two pieces of artwork displayed in the district wide art show. Drew is a Community Service Volunteer, Agility Station Leader, and worked at a basketball clinic for autistic children. Drew is a serious student, a trait that will lead to success at Rochester Institute of Technology to study Engineering.
Michael Vricella-Stokes is the son of Josephine Vricella-Stokes and Douglas Stokes. He is a member of the National Honor Society, earned the well respected and highest Boy Scout Eagle Award and was awarded the Eagle Scout- Scholar-Athlete award. Michael is a pole vault stand- out at Westfield High School and a member of its Track & Field, Indoor and Cross Country Track teams. He will bring his abilities to Denver University.
