On June 27th several members of the Township of Union Police Department participated in the town’s first “Man of Steel” challenge. This charity event was organized by members of the Union Police department and it was dedicated in the memory of Union Lt. Detective Robert Perez’s son who recently passed away. All the proceeds collected went to the New Jersey Special Olympics.
This year’s event was held at the new Club Metro on Morris Ave. in Union officers participating in this year’s event were able to choose from two different physical challenges: 6 mile run / 20 mile bike (stationary) or 13.1 mile run / 50 mile bike (stationary).
After the officers completed the demanding event, they were invited to the Red Cadillac on Morris Ave. for a charity luncheon. Red Cadillac owner, Joe Montes said, “It’s great that the Union Police Department and the Red Cadillac are able to team up and help raise money for such a great cause.” The charity luncheon was a huge success and the restaurant was able to collect well over $1,000 dollars.
Event organizer, Sgt Michael Boll stated, “I am extremely proud to be able to play a role in such a great charity and it was a great experience to test myself with such a difficult physical challenge!” Boll continued to say, “This year we were able to collect over $3,000 dollars, and this will assist the New Jersey Special Olympics athletes in their training.”
