Children are welcome to attend this story time program 

dressed in their pajamas and bring along a favorite stuffed animal

for ages 3 & up.

Registration is required for each individual craft.

October Special Events

Registration is required for all special events.

Kenilworth residents may register one week prior to each event.

Out of town residents may register two days prior to each event, space permitting.

Cursive Writing Class For Kids: 5:00pm – 6:00pm

Tuesdays, October 1,8, 22 & 29 and Nov. 5 & 12

Children in third and fourth grades are welcome to register for this six week handwriting class.All children will receive their own workbook and learn how to write their own name in script.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Boogie Woogie Babies: 10:30am – 11:00am on Tuesday, October 8.

Interactive musical program will be presented by Tiffany Taylor 

for ages: 0-  4

Yoga Story Time: 10:30am – 11:00am on Wednesday, October 9

Join us for stories and yoga poses for the youngest listeners and their caregiver. 

Children are welcome to wear their Halloween costume to this event.

Ages: 2 – 5

BUILDING AN UNDERSTANDING: WHAT IS CANCER

4:00pm – 5:00pm on Thursday, October 10 

Let’s get ready to build an understanding of cancer together! 

In this interactive workshop, children will use building blocks and playdough to learn about the basics of cell growth, cancer cell formation, and what treatments can help. 

This program will be presented by Crossroads4Hope

Ages: 6 – 12

Italian Heritage Month Celebration

Thursday, October 17  at 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Join us for an evening featuring traditional Italian music, dance and costuming.

Enjoy live music including an interactive tarantella dance lesson.

This evening will be presented by D’Italia Programs.

This program has been made possible by funds from The Union County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Children ages 4 – adult are invited to register for this program.

YOUTH TUNES MUSIC PROGRAM AT THE KENILWORTH PUBLIC LIBRARY

When: Saturdays October 19 & 26 and November 2 & 9 @ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Children ages 5 – 10 years old are invited to register for this 4 week music education workshop.

Children who register must be available to attend all 4 workshops.

Youth Tunes is an initiative to provide free music education to children so that they can explore the many different elements of music.

Activities include learning how to read notes, playing a short song on the recorder, learning a simple dance incorporating rhythm and music.

Each child will receive their own recorder to take home at the conclusion of this 4 week workshop.

These workshops will be presented by Union County Magnet High School students.

Registration is required.

SNAPOLOGY ROBOTICS Science Workshop: Creature Creator Robotics Monday October 21 at 4:00pm– 5:00pm

Children ages 7 – 12 years old are invited to register for this interactive

STEM related science workshop.

Children will create their own animal inspired robotic models. Participants will learn about gear ratio, sensors, simple machines and programming as they build insects, dolphins, gorillas and much more.  

This workshop will be presented by Snapology.

This workshop will be funded by The Ralph Errington Foundation. 

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL EVENT WITH JESTER JIM

Thursday, October 24 at 7:00pm – 8:00pm for ages 4 – adult

Join us for a Halloween celebration featuring interactive fun with juggling and beatboxing.  All participants are welcome to wear their Halloween costume.

Read To A Dog: Tuesday, October 29 at 4:00pm – 5:00pm

For early beginning readers and those who are learning to read Young, reluctant, or struggling readers are encouraged to register for this program and read aloud for 15 minutes with certified therapy dog, Petey. Children will learn to associate reading with being with this furry, non-judgmental listener and begin to view reading in a positive way. Over time, the child’s reading ability and confidence can improve because they are practicing their skills. Registration is required. Readers may register for a 15-minute visit.

Good Tyme String Band:  Wednesday, October 30 at 10:30am – 11:00am

All ages are welcome to attend and enjoy foot tapping knee slapping banjo music.  Children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to this event.

ESL CONVERSATION FOR ADULTS

Tuesdays –  October 1, 8, 15,  22 & 29 at 5:30pm – 6:30pm

Saturdays – October 5 & 19  at 10:30am – 12:00pm

Want to practice or learn more English? 

We will be hosting a free program for adults ages 18 & over.

Ready To Hatch: A Workshop For Expectant Mothers

Saturday, October 5 at 10:30am – 11:00am

This program is designed to empower expectant mothers as their babies first and most important teacher and provide information about early literacy programs offered here at the library.

Join us on Monday, October 7 at 6:00pm – 7:45pm and Tuesday, October 15 at 2-4pm

for our card making group  “Paper Pals.” 

You don’t need any paper crafting experience to join the fun. 

“Yarnies”:  Join us on Thursdays, October 3, 10 & 24 at 2-4pm and Thursday, October 31 at 6:00pm – 7:45pm. You don’t need any crafting experience to enjoy these creative explorations.  Feel free to bring a project to work on.  Watch demonstrations of knitting, crocheting and weaving.  

“Spin – A – Yarn”: Join us on Tuesday, October 29 at 5:00pm – 7:45pm.  Bring your spinning wheel or drop spindle and create beautiful yarns!  If you don’t have a wheel, you are still welcome to join us to learn about spinning.
