Millburn Public Library September 2024

Community Makes the World Go Round is the theme for fall at the Millburn Free Public Library. The Library is pleased to present its September lineup. Programs are free and open to all residents.

Register at millburnlibrary.org/events. All in person programs will take place at the library building at 200 Glen Ave. Registrants will receive a Zoom link for online programs.

Programs for adults:

Local Author Visit: Rohit Prasad

Saturday September 14, 2:30-3:30pm, Auditorium

Local author Rohit Prasad will read from and discuss his new book of short stories, Mood Swings. Copies will be available for purchase and signing.

The Art of Crossword Construction with Ruth Margolin

Thursday September 19, 7-8pm, Auditorium

A New York Times Crossword constructor shares her secrets, from concept to completion. Follow the process, see the resources used, and gain insight into the attention to detail that is at the foundation of a quality puzzle.

Live Jazz at the Library: Lenore Raphael Reunion Concert

Sunday, September 22, 3-4pm, Auditorium

Jazz pianist and Steinway artist Lenore Raphael brings her trio with Chris Berger on bass and Dwayne Cook Broadnax on drums to perform great jazz standards. With special guest Wayne Wilkinson.

Community Picnic (For All Ages!)

Saturday, September 28, 2-4pm, Outside on the field

Celebrate the diversity that makes our community so special with our first ever Community Picnic. Enjoy food, games, music and more. All are welcome. Rain date: Sunday, 9/29, 2-4pm.

Community Craft: Design and Write a Postcard

Monday, September 9, 4:00-5:00pm, Auditorium for ages 6-10

Write and design a postcard to send in the mail to someone you care about. You could even mail it to yourself. Decorate your card using fun art supplies. We’ll provide a stamp. Registration required.

Mid-Autumn Festival Bilingual Storytime (English/Mandarin)

Tuesday, September 17, 4:00-4:45pm, Auditorium for ages 5-9

Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon or Mooncake Festival, celebrates the harvest in Chinese culture! Join us for stories in English and Mandarin and make a paper lantern craft. Presented by the Millburn Short Hills Chinese Association. Registration required.

Musical Bilingual Storytime with Anabella Cespedes (English/Spanish)

Wednesday, September 18, 11:00-11:45am, Auditorium for ages 1-5

Immerse yourself in the Spanish language through story and song in a bilingual Spanish/English storytime with Anabella Cespedes. She’ll incorporate musical instruments and puppets as well as some tabletop and sensory activities. Registration required.

Come visit with a dog that will help melt your stress away.

#BannedBooksWeek Pop-Up Craft

Tuesday, September 24, 3:30-4:30pm, Teen Space

Drop by the Teen Space to make a mini banned books pin or keychain charm. The library will be celebrating Banned Books all week long with special giveaways and a Banned Books prize basket (September 22-28).

Virtual: The Digital ACT

Monday, September 30, 7-8pm, Virtual

The ACT recently announced that they will be going digital for the 2025-26 school year. Join us to learn about how this and other changes will affect test prep and admissions in general. Presented by CollegeWise. Registration required for virtual link.
