Outstanding Citizens to Be Honored By Boy Scouts

Boy Scouts of America, Patriots’ Path Council will be honoring local citizens at the Boy Scouts of America 2017 Summit Good Scout Award Dinner to be held on the evening of Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at The Grand Summit Hotel in Summit at 7:00 pm. This year’s honorees are Sandy Bloom, Christine & Andy Gottesman, Steve Rapp, Nellie & John Stewart, and Terri Tauber.
The event recognizes these seven outstanding citizens for their community service, as evidenced by their leadership and interests within the Summit community, and for their embodiment of the values of the century old Scout Oath and Law in their personal and professional lives. The event chairs are past Summit Good Scout Award Recipients, Annette and Terry Dwyer.
Sandy Bloom is an active Summit volunteer and has served on three city boards for the last eighteen years. She is currently on the boards of the Summit Public Library and the Summit Area Public Foundation. She is the immediate past president of the Library board and is the Co-Chair of the Summit Area Public Foundation’s Grants Committee.
Christine Gottesman is Special Counsel at Nukk-Freeman & Cerra, P.C. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of SAGE Eldercare located in Summit as well as a past Cub Scout den leader for both of her sons, Joseph and Benjamin. Andy Gottesman is Chief Executive Officer of Gottesman Real Estate Partners, and Edison Investment Advisors, LLC. Andy is a member of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan and of the Board of Trustees of the Pingry Alumni Association, as well as a Trustee of the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.
Steve Rapp has been teaching music since 1989, and has been in the Summit Public Schools since 1996. His extensive range of responsibilities currently includes Director of the High School Marching Band, Conductor of the Concert Band, Conductor of the Wind Ensemble, and Pit Orchestra Conductor.
Nellie Stewart is a Social Worker and has worked with various populations and in a multitude of settings, including Overlook Medical Center and most recently as a Case Manager at United Health Care. John Stewart spent 20 years in the markets and banking divisions of Standard Chartered Bank before joining J.P. Morgan. Nellie has been a passionate volunteer within the Summit Public School district for over 12 years; holding various PTO board positions at Lincoln Hubbard, LCJSMS and Summit High School, chairing school activities and an avid sign-up-genius connoisseur. She has been enthusiastically engaged in various roles within Girl Scouts troop 397, Summit Lacrosse, Summit Summies Gymnastics Team at The Connection, Summit Performing Arts Resource Center (SPARC), Summit Music Parents Association, Summit Democrats, and the Boy Scout Troop 67, Summit. John, a fervent soccer and hockey player, was a youth coach for Summit Soccer Club, Summit Junior Baseball and Beacon Hill Hockey. After serving as assistant Scoutmaster, he currently serves on Boy Scout Troop 67’s Parent Committee.
Terri Tauber runs The Flamingo Fundraiser, a hallmark of Project Graduation, and is one of Terri’s many pet projects. Terri became involved in Project Graduation back in 1998 when she was appointed to the Summit Youth Services Board. In 2006, she launched the Flamingo Fundraiser, which has raised over $45,000 in 10 years. Terri has served on the Youth Services Board for 10 years, including a term as Board Chair. She served on the Women’s Resource Center board for over 10 years, including two terms as president and was a member of the Summit Kiwanis Club for many years.
Summit is a part of the Patriots’ Path Council, Boy Scouts of America which serves 17,000 youth in over 400 Scouting units in communities like ours throughout Morris, Middlesex, Somerset, Sussex, and Union Counties.
