Mountainside Rotary Club

The Mountainside Rotary Club has had a very busy October and November will be no different. The highlight of the month was the first annual Mountainside Rotary Pickleball Tournament. The event was run with the cooperation of the Mountainside Recreation Department. Over twenty players played in the tournament. Snacks were provided by the Rotary club and prizes were awarded to the champions.
The club also had Mountainside Police Chief Alan Attanasio as its special guest at the October 16th meeting. The Chief gave members tips on how to be less likely to be victimized by a burglary. Unfortunately there has been a rise in car and home break ins in the Western Union County area. The Chief explained that this was an offshoot of the opioid crisis.
The club will have the following guest speakers during the next month:
Nov. 6–Dr. Nancy Lubarski–Chief School Administrator
Nov. 13–John Celock-President, Celock Media Group to speak on Small Businesses in town
Nov. 20–Joanne Rajoppi-Union County Clerk
Dec. 4–Principal of the Union County Magnet School–Paul Rafalowski
The club will also be distributing dictionaries to Deerfield School third graders and thesauri to Deerfield School fourth graders. The Rotary has been doing this program for over fifteen years and has distributed over 3,000 books to the students.
