Jefferson School Hosts Spelling Bee

Jefferson School hosted their 23rd Annual Mayor’s Spelling Bee on May 5th, under the direction of 5th Grade teacher Karen Steiner. Deputy Mayor Joseph Florio and Superintendent of Recreation DJ Salvante were on hand to celebrate.
First place winner was Oseka Balogun, and 2nd Place winner was Andrew Arce. Steiner, who has been in charge of the Spelling Bee for twentyyears, shared “It is extraordinary how challenging the words are and how the contestants are truly great spellers. They just ‘have it!’ I always encourage the winner and runner up to enter any spelling bee that they hear about in the future. When it comes down to two or three contestants it does become very, very exciting for all! The students in the audience were terrific, so respectful, so encouraging! I was so proud of the Jefferson students!” Congratulations to all of the participants!
