Interact Club Supports School Supplies Drive

The North Plainfield High School Interact Club sent four members to the Rotary District 7510 Conference in Shawnee on the Delaware recently to help with a school supplies drive. The needed items included pens, pencils, crayons, markers, tape, glue, paper, notebooks, folders, scissors, index cards, rulers, compasses, protractors, loose leaf paper, and the like.
Interact clubs are the high school equivalent of Rotary clubs, serving others through various projects and programs. Rotaract clubs are the intermediate level for college students and graduates, who can then advance into a local Rotary club.
The Interact members partnered with twentyone other Interact club members from the District and with Rotaract members to pack school supplies for the needy.
“Each of the Rotary clubs in our District was asked to bring a certain school supply item to the Conference,” said Ravenell Williams, president of the Plainfield-North Plainfield Rotary Club. “We were asked to supply pencils, which one of our members brought to the Conference. The goal was to pack 100 bags, so we sent three hundred pencils!”
The four representatives from the North Plainfield Interact Club each worked with a partner from the Conference during the packing event and during lunch afterwards. Some of the partners were Rotarians and some were members of Rotaract clubs at Rutgers University, Kean University, and Raritan Valley Community College.
The Plainfield-North Plainfield Rotary Club is open to membership by business and community leaders in the Plainfield’s and in the surrounding towns. Club members meet Wednesday’s for a luncheon meeting at Giovanna’s Restaurant, 1462 South Avenue, Plainfield. Anyone wishing to learn more about Rotary and the many opportunities to volunteer assistance to the Rotary Club should come to a meeting as a guest of the lub, or contact the club through PNPRotary@gmail.com or call 908-822-1441.
