Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Inducts New Officers

This year’s Fanwood Scotch Plains Rotary Installation Dinner was held at the Shackamaxon County Club in Scotch Plains on June 21, 2017.
The evening started with President Carmela Resnick highlighting the many accomplishments achieved this year: Fundraising for the Frazee House, the annual Robert Kraus Golf Outing, Casino Night, support for Operation Chillout, participation in monthly service projects for Mobile Meals of Westfield and El Centro, the launch of the Dare to be Great program at School One- and third and fourth graders held a Read a Thon that raised $4,000 to feed children in a third-world country. Additionally, the club distributed $37,000 in scholarship funds to students in the local community.
The club met its annual goal to increase membership and 13 new members were inducted! The club now has 65 members, making it the largest in the district. This was truly an achievement, as Rotary clubs in the United States have been dealing with a steady decline in membership.
Past-President Resnick went on to recognize and give awards to the following members for their service: Fundraising- Doug Lynch, Jim Checchio, Wayne Zuhl; Weekly Program management-Julie Murphy; Publicity management and getting the word out about our Rotary club: Maria LaMorte-Wright; Participation of newer members: John Marsh for his dedication to the ideals of Rotary and the club’s Rising Star Deanna Dell Bene, one of the club’s younger members. President Steve Goldberg was also recognized for all his support throughout the year. The night was topped off with Paul Harris Awards going to Bill Graham, Patty Laguna, Brooks Smith and Sam Lamparello for their dedication to Rotary.
President Steve Goldberg and the Board of Directors were sworn in for the 2017-2018 year. Steve began his speech by thanking Carmela Resnick for an outstanding year. He went on to talk about his goals including: continuing to grow the club, educating and encouraging existing members to do more, and working with the younger members of the club to help introduce a new generation to Rotary. Steve noted “It is not enough to belong to the club but to grow into a true believer of the club’s goals – a true Rotarian!”
The gavel has been passed and under the leadership of President Steve Goldberg it will be a wonderful and exciting year for the Fanwood Scotch Plains Rotary Club!
